Photoelectric & Heat Alarms

BROOKS have released a range of Photoelectric (Optical) Smoke Alarms and Heat Alarms.

The 600 series from BROOKS represents the latest in smoke alarm technology. The 600 series has been designed to be aesthetically pleasing whilst meeting all the requirements of AS3786 for Smoke and AS1603.3 for Heat Alarms. Brooks have also maintained the high standards of manufacturing, reliability and quality control that have made BROOKS the product of choice in residential applications.

This new range from BROOKS is only available in Photoelectric or Heat.

Why? Well, all Fire Authorities in Australia and New Zealand recommend the use of Photoelectric as the most effective means of detecting smouldering fires. In the event of fast flaming fires such as kitchens or garages where a fast flaming fire is likely to occur or where flammables may be present then heat alarms will provide additional detection coverage. Photoelectric, unlike Ionisation which uses a small radioactive component to detect smoke, uses light emitting diode technology. Given the most common cause of injury or death is due to smoke as opposed to flame then the detection of smoke at the earliest possible opportunity enhances the early warning capabilities.

Smoke and Heat Alarms focus on Fire Protection through early warning NOT Prevention. Early warning provides the opportunity to react and manage a potentially life threatening situation.

EIB600 Series of RF Modules:

EIB605MRF RF module to suit the 600 series to allow wireless interconnect, powered from the smoke or heat alarm.

EIB605MTYRF RF module to suit the 600 series 10 year lithium battery models to allow wireless interconnect, powered by an on board 10 year lithium battery.

Brooks see interconnecting all Smoke, Heat or Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarms as the most effective way to increase early warning in domestic residential applications. With interconnect when one alarm triggers then all interconnected alarms will sound thereby increasing the effectiveness of your alarm system. With the new 600 series interconnection can be wired or wireless by the innovative plug in wireless modules available as options or supplied with the alarm. Wireless interconnection is ideal for those applications where running cables may be difficult, in an established residence, in a heritage listed dwelling, connecting a granny flat or moveable dwelling to the main house system, or as a retrofit to an existing system.

Key Features and Benefits:

Optical Chamber and Insect Screen – the heart of the detection circuitry, the optical sensor is a proven Ei design and is very responsive and provides the earliest possible detection of all fire types. A faulty chamber alarm is generated in the event of the chamber going faulty. The chamber comes with an integral high quality fixed and welded insect screen with <0.8mm2 mesh which keeps out small insects and fibres that can cause false alarms. Small insects are one of the major causes of false alarms.

Long Life Lithium Battery Models – There is no requirement to replace cells as the lithium cells will power the alarm for more than 10 years which exceeds the service lifetime of the installed smoke alarm. The alarm is not powered until the unit is connected to the twist on base thus avoiding battery power consumption during storage and prior to installation. The non-replaceable cell and tamperproof design limits the possibility of the alarm being disabled.

Tamper proof sealed battery compartment – The EIB603/605TY series use 10 year lithium cells which will last the service lifetime of the smoke alarm. The battery is soldered directly onto the circuit board and cannot be removed from the unit without destroying the smoke alarm. As the battery cannot be removed the alarm cannot be rendered inoperative.

Hush Button Facilities – large Test/Hush button approximately 50mm in diameter which makes it extremely easy to test and hush with a broom handle or similar implement from floor level.

Positive Action Hush/Test Button – the test/hush button has a positive tactile feel and a small click can be heard and felt when the test/hush button is pressed.

Low battery Signal/Light Showing on Alarm – a red indicating LED will flash every 40 seconds to show that the alarm is powered on and it has performed an automatic self-test. The alarm will emit a beep every 40 seconds to indicate that the battery is near depletion and needs replacing. The red LED will flash approx. every 2 seconds on alarm and when the unit is in hush mode until the alarm resets.

Quick Fixing lockable anti-removal mounting bracket – By breaking off a small pillar at time of installation the unit can be made to be non-removable except with the use of a small screwdriver. The mounting bracket/plate is removed by pushing up a catch and twisting the alarm anti-clockwise to remove. The alarm can be made further tamper proofed by using a No. 2 or 4 self-tapping screw to further lock the alarm to the base.

Auto – reset after smoke clears – the smoke alarm will be silenced for a period of 10 minutes when the hush button is pressed. The red LED will continue to flash every 10 seconds to indicate that the alarm is in hush mode. The smoke alarm will reset itself to the normal sensitivity at the end of the silenced period. If additional silence time is required simply press the hush button again.

Interconnect – All 600 series “C” models have as standard wired interconnect and with the addition of the optional RF module can also be wirelessly interconnected in those environments where running interconnect cables may be difficult. Up to 12 units can be hard wire interconnected and up to 20 units via RF. A combination of hardwire and RF can be used in the one installation. Whilst interconnect is not a legal requirement it is a strong safety message – one alarm sounds all – a fire downstairs sounds the alarms upstairs resulting in the early response to detection.

Sounder – the sounder contained within the alarm is a soldered connection. The sound output level is 85dB at 3 meters as per specification.

100% Product Testing – Brooks/Ei use Kaizen(continuous improvement) manufacturing and quality processes and ensures 100% product testing of each product including live smoke testing.

EIB603 Series Heat Alarm – Brooks/Ei also produce a 10Year Lithium Cell Heat Alarm with an RF interconnect option which can work in conjunction with the EIB605TY Photoelectric unit offered in the is proposal. For those installations that may require heat alarms as well the EIB603 series integrates seamlessly with the EIB605 series.
